Stokholm

Fifth event within the international project Escalating into Holocaust - from Execution Squads to the Gas Van of Sajmište: Two Defining Phases of the Holocaust in Serbia was held in Stockholm, Sweden on 7 December 2016. The leading organization in this project is Historical Archives of Belgrade.
International conference, held in Sensus cultural center in Stockholm, gathered the representatives of partnering organizations and international experts in Holocaust, Second World War and in Holocaust education. The conference was attended by the students from student organization Paideia as well as other interested citizens. The conference was organized by partnering organization Terraforming North from Sweden.

The conference consisted of two parts. In the first session, lecturers were:
Dr Milan Koljanin, who presented historical background of Sajmište camp, Dr Čedomila Marinković, who described pre war life of Jewish community in Belgrade, Tijana Kovčić, who presented the role of the Historical Archives of Belgrade in the project and the work on the database of Sajmište victims and
Miško Stanišić, director of the Terraforming Network, who presented the role of the graphic novel in teaching about Holocaust. Also, concept of the educational material developed by Terraforming during this project was presented for the first time. (Stockholm event programme)

Second session consisted of a panel discussion on topic The role of memorialization and importance of teaching and learning about the holocaust in lights of current increase of intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism and raise of the far-right in Europe. Very interesting and vivid discussion included all present experts and audience.
The project was financed by Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). The project was also supported by Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia and City Administration of the City of Belgrade – Secretariat for Culture.
