Konf Novi SadThe sixth international conference within international project Escalating into Holocaust - from Execution Squads to the Gas Van of Sajmiste: Two Defining Phases of the Holocaust in Serbia, was held in Novi Sad on 24th January 2017. It was the final project event after those held in Belgrade, Niš, Amsterdam, Kragujevac and Stockholm.
 
International conference organized and held in the new building of the Historical Archives of Novi Sad, gathered representatives of the partnering organizations, international and Serbian experts in Holocaust and in Second World War, as well as the experts in Holocaust education. The conference was attended also by the representatives of the Jewish community of Novi Sad, representatives of the municipal and regional authorities, teachers, students and other citizens interested in this topic.
 
The conference consisted of two parts. In the introductory part Dr Milan Koljanin talked about the period of occupation of Serbia and explained historical background of the camp Sajmiste. The lecture was followed by the demonstration of the project results presented by Misko Stanisic, Dr Sanela Schmid, Tijana Kovcic and Nikola Radic Lucati. In the second part of the conference, the lectures were held by Dr Erik Somers, Dr Vjeran Pavlakovic and Petar Djurdjev. The conference was closed by a debate on Holocaust education in Serbia and in Europe in the context of current European challenges of Anti-Semitism, xenophobia and historical revision.
