Exhibition Music in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia presents the development of music on the territory of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia whose foundations were laid by artists who performed in the period before the Kingdom was created.

 

Seven thematic entities – Musical Education, Composers, Music and Singing Societies in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Social Life – Merging of Cultures, Church Music, Choral Music, Military Music, with more than a hundred exponents, demonstrate different institutional identities of music in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, their (in)stability, variability and closeness to social and political affairs.

 

Chronologically oldest documents are from 19th century referring to Slovene composer and conductor Davorin Jenko (1835–1914), who left a remarkable trace on

Serbian music and who composed Serbian national anthem Boze Pravde. Exhibition pays respect to the most important figure in Serbian music- Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac, a composer, a conductor of Belgrade Choir Society (founded in 1853) and a founder (in 1899) of Serbian Music School where he was principal until his death in 1914.

 

Besides numerous documents, photographs and music scores, the exhibition presents extremely valuable documents, such as: receipt of Davorin Jenko’s fee for music composed for opera Vracara from 1896; Resolution from 1924 of the Ministry of Education and Music School in Belgrade demanding Law on Art Schools to be adopted and State Conservatorium of Music to be established in Belgrade and Ljubljana; Miloje Milojevic, Josip Slavenski and Kosta Manojlovic’s letter of protest from 1927 to the administration of the Music School in Belgrade criticizing financial law which allowed to the Ministry of Education to prepare 50 elementary school teachers to become high school music teachers within one year; Application of Josip Slavenski to the Teachers’ Council of the Music School in Belgrade to approve a class of free composition in school year 1928/29 from 1929; Marija St. Mokranjac’s letter of protest from 1935 sent to a group of singers, former members of Belgrade Choir Society, on the occasion of establishment of Singer Society “Mokranjac” etc…

 

In the ceremony of exhibition opening, the oldest preserved tone film called “Belgrade”, recorded in 1932, was presented to the gathered visitors with the courtesy of Yugoslav Film Archives.
The exhibition was opened by Professor Zoran Eric, Rector of University of Arts in Belgrade and a string quartet of the Ministry of Defense “Stanislav Binicki”.

Exhibition “Banjica Concentration Camp 1941–1944 – Prisoners from Požarevac and Braničevo County was opened on September 20th 2017 in the Gallery of Contemporary Arts in Požarevac. Exhibition panels with archival documents, books and photographs demonstrate everyday life in the camp and perishing of its prisoners originating from Braničevo County.

 

Preserved Prisoners Register Books of Banjica concentration camp show that 1 683 prisoners of the camp were from Braničevo County and most of them, 356 prisoners, were from the City of Pozarevac. Then follow other municipalities of the county: 317 prisoners were from Veliko Gradište, 290 prisoners were from Petrovac na Mlavi, 191 from Žagubica and 165 from Malo Crnuće; 135 prisoners were from Golubac, the same number of prisoners were from Kučevo and 94 prisoners were from Žabari. 276 prisoners were shot, 7 prisoners were killed, 15 prisoners died in the camp dispensary, 575 prisoners were taken to forced labor, 724 prisoners were set free from the camp and for 90 prisoners there is no information on their destiny.
Multimedia exhibition consists of three parts: first part contains 16 exhibition panels presenting 78 archival documents and photographs; second part presents 17 exhibition exponents in the showcases and 4 models of Banjica prisoners Register Books. Third part presents electronic documents.

 

The exhibition is supplemented by illustrated catalogue with introduction texts and a list of camp prisoners originating from Požarevac and Braničevo County. The catalogue is available in electronic form as well.

 

Realization of the mutual project of the Historical Archives of Požarevac and Historical Archives of Belgrade – exhibition, catalogue publication and electronic catalogue was supported by the City of Požarevac.

Within the manifestation Belgrade Days in Moscow, held from 25th until 27th of May 2017, Historical Archives of Belgrade presented an exhibition Belgrade – an Ancient City.

 

The exhibition was opened on the Gogolevski Boulevard, on the second day of the manifestation presenting cultural aspect of Belgrade. On 60 exhibition panels, visitors were able to see and get familiar with the history of Serbian capital - prehistoric, Celtic, Roman, Slavic Medieval, Turkish and Austrian Belgrade. Panels presented the development of Belgrade chronologically and how Belgrade was being transformed from Turkish town into modern European city. They also narrated how many times Belgrade was conquered, liberated, bombed and how many times it rose from the ashes.

 

Photographs of modern Belgrade were followed by selected documents, engravings, charters, projects and old photographs preserved in the Historical Archives of Belgrade. Put together, they revealed Belgrade’s past, present and a vision of future Belgrade.
Working on this exhibition, authors wanted specifically to emphasize an immense contribution of the Russian people that left inerasable trace in the contemporary history of Belgrade, in the area of engineering, architecture, sculpture, ballet, set design and illustrations, and the biggest of all – liberation of Belgrade in 1944.

 

The exhibition will be opened for visitors until 6 June 2017.
